Melissa Cherry – All Inspired Boutique
As the first to be featured in our Women Entrepreneurs Series, Melissa Cherry of All Inspired Boutique was gracious enough to share some of her own entrepreneurial experiences with us and her words of advice to new and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The name says it all, ” All Inspired Boutique”. It’s a business built from one woman’s desire to inspire others. The Johns Creek, GA specialty boutique was started just short of two years ago by entrepreneur, Melissa Cherry.
After becoming a mom of two young children, Melissa transitioned her career as a Speech Pathologist to working in direct sales for Southern Living at Home, and Biltmore Inspirations. After 12 years of managing direct consultants across the country who sold home decor and other products by hosting parties out of their homes, Melissa’s career took an unexpected turn. And she made the decision to pursue her own business. With encouragement from her husband Walt, she took a leap of faith and “All Inspired Boutique” was born.
“It took a whole lot of prayer,” she says. “It just felt like The Lord took my hand and showed me the steps to take.” Melissa’s faith in God was instrumental in her entrepreneurial journey. “Without Him, none of this would have been possible.”
“All the years of getting to see women connect and also helping other women with their businesses, and helping them succeed was what I loved. It’s Girl Power.” Building on that, Melissa ventured to create a business built on inspiration. “Every product we carry is special,” she says. ” It has a story. “With every product we ask, is it unique? Will it inspire others?”
“I didn’t want All Inspired to be like every other boutique.”
Even with the clothing that is sold in the store, Melissa made the choice to give back: a percentage of all sales is donated to CURE Childhood Cancer, an Atlanta based non-profit. The boutique carries a variety of inspirational products, like SSEKO purses, which are handmade in Uganda by young girls — high school graduates who otherwise would not be able to earn the funds needed to further their education and pursue their dreams. “It’s truly inspirational — a lot of Girl Power going on,” she notes.
Once she made the decision, Melissa did not waste any time getting her business started. She was intent on finding the right products and local vendors. Her goal was to reach a large audience and she did this by building her store online. The website, AllinspiredBoutique.com, draws shoppers from around the country.
The online business flourished and Melissa and her husband decided it would be great to have additional space for inventory, packing and shipping orders. “Boxes were taking over the house. “We didn’t initially plan on having a retail location,” she explains. After much thought though, they decided to build out a full retail boutique store.
The store opened in March, and despite the somewhat hidden location, customers are seeking it out and word of mouth has spread quickly. Store hours have been extended thanks to the extra help of Melissa’s dear friend, Kathryn, who works in the store on most days. The boutique is artfully designed with rustic accents and plenty of southern charm. The layout is easy to navigate and clearly showcases the array of unique products in the store.
Melissa’s passion and persistence is evident in the growth her business has experienced in such a short period of time. Her inspiration comes from the people around her and their stories. It’s apparent that she is truly passionate about making an impact on others. Whether through the local vendors she works with, or the many connections she has made with customers, her business is truly built from the heart.
